            HISTORY OF TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER

Texas Hold’em Poker is the most popular game of poker in the casinos and poker rooms in Europe and North America. It it considered that Texas Hold'em Poker first appeared in Robstown, Texas in the beginning of 20th century. The game was introduced to Las Vegas in 1967 by a group of card players from Texas and it was called “Hold’em” instead of “Texas Hold’em”. The game didn’t gain big popularity back then and was offered in two Las Vegas casinos only.

Texas Hold’em Poker became part of the tournament World Series of Poker that is held annually in Las Vegas. Many journalists and professionals suggested that Texas Hold’em Poker should become the main event of the tournament and it did.

The popularity of the game began to grow outside of Nevada. In 1988, Texas Hold'em Poker became legal in California and started being offered in the card rooms across California. In Europe, Texas Hold’em Poker was introduced by Terry Rogers and Liam Flood - two Irish card players and bookmakers who brought it after a trip to Las Vegas.
